female ready to lay

veiledbrian Jan 07, 2006 09:45 AM

My secodn female veiled is ready to lay her eggs. Yesterday she began to dig in the corner of her box. Everything so far looks good besides for one strange behavior, when she stops digging ive seen her to the edge of the box twice and fall off, head first, to the bottom of the cage. I'm not sure if i spooked her or what. heres a picture of her belly, you can see eggs all the way up to her front elbows.

your photos are really big and difficult to see without scrolling which loses a lot (and I have a 17" monitor, most poeple likely do not have anything bigger than a 12-15". I looked in the gallery for you but could not find any photos.

From what I can see, she looks quite lumpy. Can you post some photos (maybe to the gallery) of her cage and laying setup? How tall is her tub? She should not be falling except that she is so "full" she may be having a hard time maneuvering. You can raise the floor around the tub by placing towels. Does she have an easy climb to get into and out of the tub? Btw, when did she mate?

Sorry about the pics....I have her in a 38 gal reptarium. With a clear plastic laying box, which worked fine for my other female. It holds 50 pounds of sand. I too figured it was just that she was so full. She was bred on December 3rd. She did not begin to show heavy signs, egg shapes, of being gravid until about 1 week ago. She took a little longer than my first female. I wasn't even sure she was gravid for quite some time. Her container stand about a little more than a foot tall, maybe a foot and a half. I'll try the towel method. She was digging a lot today. Some decently deep holes. The sand in spots was a little drier than what it should be. Once i turned her lights off for the night I i heavily sprayed her laying box.
