Got My First GTP Today!!

KenMc Jan 07, 2006 04:44 PM

Just put him in the terrarium two hours ago. Already had the terrarium set up before I bought him. Temperature is 84 F and the humidity is 80%. I am using moss as a bedding material and have 3 vines at varioius levels. Its been two hours since he has been in the setup and he is not on any on the vines yet. He has crawled up to the very top of the terrarium resting on a ledge. Is everything setup ok or is the snake just doing this because he is stressed out from being introduced into a new environment? Any comments would be apprreciated. Thanks..... Will post pics soon!

Sounds perfectly normal to me. I suspect that by tomorrow he'll be happily perched. Congrats on your new baby!

Update.... The snake is doing great he is on a vine and looks comfortable. The temp is still 84 and humidity is around 80%. How low can the humidity and temperature get without harming the snake. Thanks

Sounds perfect. I'm not sure how long you could go. I'm certain there's plenty of snakes out there without proper humidity that survive for many years. They just have difficulty shedding and might get dehydrated. Most of us let our cages (on the older snakes anyway)dry out a bit between spraying. Mine gets down to about 50% before the next spraying. I try to keep the baby's up higher than that and keep it there. I believe Greg says you could go away for a couple of days and they'd be fine. I know during cycling they drop the temps into the low 70's but usually only overnight. Then they are back up to 85 during the day. Longterm low temps can bring on an R.I. and you wouldn't want to go there!
