Wow! That Monterrey snake is very nice. What is the size of those guys? Any other incidentals you could share?
I remember as a kid keeping the southerns and how I was gonna selectively breed them for size. I think by my 3rd generation I had a bunch of 13"-15"ers. I was marking off all the "new" food items and such that I had never seen documented (although I know they must have been, I had like one book)like anolis eggs and how the littlest ones would pull a big earthworm apart to eat it. I thought I was ahead of the curve when I was ten...
I still say if they were 3',I may have no other snakes but them!
Thanks for the pictorial.

How's it going Mark. Long time no speak.

The record length for regalis is 42", and there is a population whereas the majority of the specimens there is ATLEAST 35"... and 40" specimens are not uncommon.

And from what I know, the Monterey Ringnecks average 20"-28". And nicely sized in girth. Mainly snake eaters.

...maybe if you would have thought it through, or I would have been more crystal clear on it, you'd have realized I was talking about my hometown snakes (as in what I might find when I was ten years old) which are southern ringnecks. If you find a three footer let me know

The biggest southern I have seen was 20", but it was an intergrade with a northern lol.

I live in Santa Barbara county and regularly find D. p. vandenburgii. All of the coastal Santa Barbara County and San Luis Obispo county ringnecks I've found have been under 20" (most only a bit over a foot) and would only take salamanders.

Well I know a good majority of people that find them rarely find them under 18" or so. I assume salamanders are prey in one area, while snakes are prey in another. Did you try snakes?
