There is someone in Kentucky. I will source them out for you. My collection is closed and I do not often offer any animals to the public but the person to whom I am referring you has nice ones.

Anyone recall which Texas zoo has the Mexican spilotes? (I'll be in San Antonio in a couple weeks, is that the place?)

Speaking of nice spilotes - I had one 20 years ago that had a 100% white head and neck - haven't seen one like it since. I belive it came from Columbia.

I have a 5-6 foot male that was quite orangish as a youngster. I'd like to find him a female or sell him or do a breeder loan when he gets bigger.

I think your correct, that sounds right. I found these beautiful pics from the Fort Worth Zoo too;

The one I had had a pure white head and neck - no black at all till you got well down the neck. I saw a picture of one like it in a older, small European book. Has anyone see one like it?

Do you have a picture sounds awsome. How did you get snakes out of Columbia?

I don't have pics - it was 25 years ago. I got it from some back alley herp wholesaler in Miami, who was apparently a front for cocaine smuggling. Our mutual acquaintance (who brought me there) said they were Columbians who brought the snakes in from Columbia. The cages were piled high with boa, spilotes, etc crammed into screen cages. I was told they kept the snakes there till they defecated, at which time they lost about $10,000 in value, and were then sold to jobbers.

It looked a bit like this one:

There is a breeder in california with animals like the one you posted. He had two clutches of eggs go bad. Yes I think they are columbian in origin. There is none avalable at present. The persin in question has no record of locality but after vewing the adults one of them looked to me to have mexican influince.

Can you post a picture of your male? Do you have locality information on him? I do not breed animals unless some locality data is known or there is a good reason to beleive the locality based on scale count or color etc...

Sure. Some of my old snakes (no longer have) are on Hondurans at the top of this page:

My male (I think) is now about 6 ft:

More:

The top row is the male I still have. The next 2 rows are snakes I no longer have (they died). The rest are labeled:

I will take some pictures of my orange banded Hondurans to show the strait up and down banding.

This was produced by breeding Honduran to Honduran.

Notice the lack of chevron pattern that is found in Mexican and Belize.

Ah, I see now. Do you have a write up of the various subspecies appearance and other identifying characteristics? I've never seen anything very detailed at all.

Looking at the Costa Rica snake on my web site I would guess a different species, given the keeled scales, distinct head shape and coloration.

Beautiful snake BTW.

Joe
Look at the Costa Rican specimen on this page:

It is my own research and I have not published anything as of yet. I may in the near future. I have seen Solid Yellow or nearly solid yellow from Surinam, Columbia, Brazil, and Costa. Rica. There are reports of some from Honduras but I have not seen one yet. Black and white from Honduras, I am wondering if the white headed one you mentioned was possably a Honduran morph?
