Normal or Het. ?

Donte Jul 24, 2003 07:58 PM

Today I got my first baby balls, form my first clutch.
She laid four eggs and four healthy little babies disembark,
they where produce from a normal female to a 66% het for albino
male. Sad to say that there were no albinos, however I will
keep the two female and hopefully next season produce an albino.
Now my question is what % are the babies? Are they 66% het, 50% het, or just normal?
Thanks
Donte`

normal breed to 66% het will NOT produce an albino. you have possible possible hets. good Idea to breed them back to the 66%er, but sold as normals. if you breed all the female babies back to 66% dad, you have a chance of an albino.

Congratulations on the babies! You should be happy for that.
The babies are all 33% het for albino. Another way of thinking
of it is this: If the male is actually a het, then they are 50%
het for albino. But if the male is normal, then the babies are
all normal (0% het for albino).

Note: You cannot get albinos from breeding anything to a 'normal'
ball python. In order to produce albinos, both male and female
MUST be carriers of the albino train (i.e. 100% het for albino, or albino). Even if your male was an albino, none of the babies
would be albino...they would all be normal looking and be 100%
het for albino. Hope this helps. Good luck!
