how do you chameleons keepers feel about houseing multiple (very low number)of juvenile chameleons (panthers) in one large inclosure temporarily, can it be done or is it a BIG mistake?

I always keep my hatchling panther chameleons together for the first month or two in a large cage...but after that I separate them. I have found that they do better when separated at that point. Just my experience...others many have different advice that also works.
Some questions for you in return...how old are they? how long were you thinking to house them together? how big an area? All this will make a difference in how the chams react. Can you build a very large cage and divide it visually? Think of it this way...you'll have to separate them fairly soon anyway so why not do it now? Chams don't benefit from group housing and do benefit from being kept singly, so if in doubt, just plan to do that unless they are really tiny hatchlings.
most likely 3-4 month olds for ~1 month
At that age they are individuals, and the more aggressive ones may stress the others. I would not house them together. You might get away with group housing if they are a month old, but I would not push it much later than that.
