Is my BP sick?

TriggerHappy Jan 08, 2006 02:41 AM

I was holding one of my ball pythons today and noticed something. About a quarter of an inch or less below his vent is some kind of "ball". I dont know if it is a fat deposit or what and was hoping that somebody might be able to give me some info on what it might be. The ball sticks out a little on his belly but not on the sides or top. It is also kind of hard. Any ideas?? Thanks

Mike

I'm not experienced enough to help you, but I'm certain that those who might be able to help will want to see a picture. Is there any way that you could post a picture of what you're seeing? If so, people will better understand you problem.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

Sounds like if you want to keep your BP, now would be a good time to see a vet. What ever it is, it isn't normal. Could be nothing or it could be a problem, let a professional figure that out.

good luck.

Sounds like the snake may have an abscess or other infection. You mentioned it was a male, so it may have an infected hemipene. I have seen abscesses show up for unknown reasons. Also the possibility of parasites and tumors...depends on the age, etc. I have seen some of these kinds of things at my hospital near KC...sounds like you need to take it to your vet for an exam.

Thanks everyone who responded to my post. I appreciate your help. I will get him checked out asap. I checked him again today and the "ball" seems like it may have gotten a little smaller and even moved forward a little bit. Either way it doesnt seem like a good thing. Thanks again for the help!
