Worth sharing, Some extremely rare turtles

I figured this is worth sharing to the forum, I haven't seen anything like this before. I found it on another forum. Way cool!

I have had one for nearly twenty years (and one for about 7 years) and, of ALL the chelonians (snappers included) this is the most dangerous species. It can reach around and bite you while you are holding the extreme rear of the shell (and you can't hold it by the tiny tail). I still have a scar from those awful tooth-like projections from the jaws BUT..... it is among my very favorite turtles in a large collection.

Erico,

If you could, can you tell me alittle more about your experience keeping claudius. They have been a dream turtle of mine for years. I have kept snapping turtles and many musk turtles, but I have yet to even see a living claudius. I have been looking for one for years. I know they are rather expensive, and I dont have the funds to purchase one at the time anyway, but if you dont mind talking about it I would love to hear the story of how you aquired yours. I also wanted to thank thatsme for posting the site. I've searched for these turtles many times and this is the first time I have seen that site.

Thank you again,
Bob

I have found them to be hardy and non-demanding turtles that eat essentially anything. I feed them mostly generic "trout" pellets and Reptomin. The only one I lost escaped and hid in an obscure area of my basement and dessicated. They are not cheap and I believe I paid over $250 for my last one from Glades Herp(lost all my aquisition records recently). I have 2 males.

Thanks for responding. Glades gets alot of neat things in. Someday I would love to get a pair. Anyway, after years of looking for one I decided to go the musk turtle route. I'm currently working with loggerheads, and stripe-necks.

Take it easy
Bob

Are you breeding your Loggerheads and Stripenecks Bob?

I emailed the Claudius site, and they do breed them.

Contact me via this forum in a few months. Circumstances may dictate the sale of my most recent Cladius, probably cheaper than what you have on the internet.
