What are some guidelines on identifying a BTS as a Northern, Eastern or Irian Jaya? I'm having trouble telling the difference. Also, how much would an adult of each type cost? Thanks in advance. JROB

usually coloration and pattern help identify blue tongue skinks. For a good site with alot of information about all blue tongue skinks in the pet trade, visit www.bluetongueskinks.net
This site is the best site I have found for identifying species of skinks and learning about each kind. Lots of pictures of different animals of each species to make it easier to see variations naturally occuring with each species. It also has a great care guide on each species.
As for prices for each species, I can't answer that. I have seen a fair range of prices for skinks but haven't priced all species. When I bought my two northern blue tongues, I piad $300 total, in Canadian dollars. I have seeen northerns go as much as $299 at petstores and Irian jaya skinks at something like $499 but this was for an adult.
US prices will be different of course, checking the kingsnake classifieds for skinks should give an ideal what the going market rates are in the US.
