jcraze Jan 09, 2006 01:57 AM

i have a albino burm that is about 3feet long and i stoped feeding it live mice and started giving her frozen/thawed mice and she just stoped eating.i also tryed to feed her a live mouse on friday and she wouldn't eat but she was getting ready to shed so i am gonna try again this friday.i really want to feed her frozen because my other snake was attacked by a rat and got bit on its head right by it's eye so ever since then i have been trying to feed them dead food.let me know if any of ya know a way to get her eating again

make sure the prekilled/frozen thawed food is all set for the snake. By that I mean, if it's FT, make sure it's fully thawed out and slightly warm. Try putting some of it's blood on the head of it. That may help. Use LONG tongs and dangle the food item in front of the snake and wiggle it around. Just some thoughts.

I had a similar problem with my burm. when I was trying to get him on F/T prey. (Which never happened) I tried everything for many months. He would eat pre-killed though with no problem. I finally gave up trying the F/T. Now I have a C02 chamber that I built to pre-kill the rodents for my Burm. Now on large rats and it works great. The one time I got him to eat F/T I fed pre-killed and as he was finishing that one I shoved the thawed rat in his mouth and he ate it. Maybe that would work? good luck

About how much did it run you to make the CO2 chamber? Do you have a website explaining how to?

Thanks,

Chris

I don't mind at all. With the help of a couple of people on this forum I built my chamber for roughly $50 total.(also a $3 charge to fill the 20oz tank) The project was really easy overall. I don't have a site explaining how but I do have pictures and would be willing to answer any questions. It may not look to be the best but it works perfectly for what I need. Here is a palce to see some pics of it.

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to look into building one of those. Doesn't seem like a bad cost at all and it appears rather simple.

Thanks again,

Chris

how and what did you need to make the chamber

kilhd Jan 11, 2006 01:52 AM

Ok.. here is how I personally built mine. Others probably have done things a bit different but mine works all the same. : )

Needed:
1) C02 Tank (mins is 20oz got from wal-mart)
2) Universal Fill Adapter ( http://www.sakworldpaintball.com/ unfilad.html )
3) Nipple Compression fittings (screws on fill adapter)
4) Industrial size aquarium tubing (any air/gas tubing would work - also if you have paintball shop they sell a "remote hose" which has build in fill adapter and tubing and a regulator but is more expensive than my total cost)
5) container for actual "chamber" (most people seem to use plastic 5-10 gallon buckets like from home depot and such but i used a water container that had perfect hole already - for picnis and such)
6) aquarium silicone (found at most pet shops)

Work..
connect fill adapter to tank, fittings to adapter, hose to fittings, hose to container silicone any "open" areas and thats basically it. It would be alot easier to buy that remote hose i mention but since I don't have a local paintball shop was easier and ALOT cheaper for me to order the adapter i needed. Hope this helps someone. reason I built this chamber is so I could pre-kill large prey in a more humane way than just wacking them on a hard surface or other various methods. this one seems much more humane and painless. thanks for looking
