What kind of monitor do you want? And do you have a plan of how you're going to be caring for it for the next 10 years? If you're not planning on a smaller species, I don't think it's fair to ask your mom to give up all that floor space in the house for a something she doesn't really want.
Hi...
I don't know how old you are, and to me, your age would be a big factor in getting a monitor. As a mom myself, I would want to see you demonstrate responsibility in other areas of your life (like doing assigned chores without being told, helping around the house without being asked, etc.). If you have a job or a way to earn money, start a "reptile" fund. Research the type of monitor you want, (smaller and fairly easy going would be a good choice) and then see if you can find a breeder in your area that you and your mom could visit. She could see the animals first hand and maybe hold one?? Animals are a big responsibility both in time, money and emotions. Are you prepared to care for this animal long term? Do you know how much it will cost to feed it? What about vet bills? Just a few things to think about that I'm sure your mom already has. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

I agree!!
Its a long term commitment and even after buying the lizard and its home it will cost you a bit for food and when he gets bigger.
Now the question I have for you is what will you do when your monitors bites you? Or starts acting aggresively? Take it from me it hurts bad.
I have 5 savannahs and all of them were unwanted. One has lost the tip of his tail cos he bit his young owner and after that was held by it ... it was shrivelled and fell off a week after I got him.
And who will look after them when you are on holiday or camp or summat?? Its not the same as asking someone to feed the cat
If after this you are still determined and you can answer the above I would suggest the following strategy.
You dont say if you have kept any other reptiles?
Maybe a good plan is to start with something else corn snakes or a smaller lizard. That way you can show mum that you are responsible, and if all goes well you can have them AND a monitor
) Maybe a cute water dragon may just persuade mum.
I got some corns after I had my lizards so that people round my place could hold something and now I wouldnt be without them they have a lot of character and are very inquisitive.
In the mean time you should read up as much as you can and coming on here is a very good thing as well.
Anyway good luck and always remember that even if she wont let you have one now there is plenty of time and they really are just the best
