konjo-kim Jan 09, 2006 10:52 AM

My hobby is to collect varanids.

I hope to breed them all soon.

My varanids grow up fast by feeding them pork.

They

(V. salvator 2 ea, V. salvadori, V. rudicollis, V. dumerili, V. exanthematicus, and common tegu)

have lived for a few days without any problem in one tank.

Dude.your messing with us right..your kidding right! they look like they need help...sorry for the bad news

why do you have them all in the same cage?keeping different species in the same cage is a no in my book...
this may sound rude, but i think you should give them up to good homes, because you have obviously not done your homework.

WOW! So, you keep all those together in that aquarium huh...? Did you notice that they are all laying on each other trying to soak up some heat in the same small area? A Croc with a tegu? I don't like to critisize people just give them a few thoughts and some info but seriously your cage has some to be desired. I love Crocodile Monitors and can't believe you would house one like that. Not to mention your two waters. Do they have a tub of water they can both soak in? There is so much I could say about this!
As for "they are all doing good for a few days". What are you waiting for and why would you take the chance of loosing them or injuring them. Do you know anything about the species you are keeping? Do you have a clue about stress on reptiles? I am new to this whole internet forum stuff and I am learning a lot about people and thier husbandry habits. It is sad. Instead of buying a ton of lizards and throwing them all together in a tub or fish tank, why not get one or two and house them correctly? That should be more important than having your collage of lizard chaos. I will leave it there for now. I am sure this will turn into a long thread of comments. You might love your pets but as far as breeding goes you need to learn proper husbandry first. Your lizards don't have a choice, you are responsible for their health and safety from the day you purchased them to their untimely demise. Good luck here come the comments from EXPERTS to newbies!

Let me guess... you went into a local pet store and quickly snapped these photos before you ran out of the store screaming in frustration. Closer to the truth? I sure hope so...

A V.dumaticus or a V.tegador or a V. rudidori or two forms of V.salvacollis, or a V.exanthecollisodoririli, of course that one comes later on.

And to think, all I need is a small pig farm to keep these beasts fed. Not a problem.

Good luck to you and your monitors. really a V.dumidor would be nice. FR

I want one of the V.exanthecollisodoririli, guess I'll just have to wait, maybe a tegador would be cool.

Your croc looks about the right size to eat the little guy laying on top of him. Hope you give them more food than lighting. Though, they may turn agressive towards each other once you start feeding mice to SEVEN different monitors at once! You need to divide the amount of lizards you have into about 4 cages that size, some full time incandescent infra-red might be nice apposed to a soft-white house bulb and some water bowls would help out too. Just a thought.

I do see your heat light now, but INTERNALLY mounted is a bad idea, especially the way they are vying for the spotlight. Just plain too many in one cage. Love your back wall though. You did do a good job there.

jock Jan 10, 2006 07:49 PM

Or have they eaten each other yet? My guess is the little one would go first.

No seriously you need to separate them, they all look stressed.

You said they have been doing good in the same cage for a few days ... what did you have them in before this???

lgehrig4 Jan 12, 2006 10:07 PM

.....please stop giving this guy the attention he's craving. It's obviously a joke. Everything he said so far was intended to warrant these reactions.

Dude you should have photoshopped an alligator in there as well to make it more believable

Everyone is so quick to jump and be mean to this person. Please if you read this konjo-kim change what you are doing. Your monitors can not be kept like this, even if it is “working” for now this is not a good situation. I know very little about monitors. I do know that my two savannahs have a cage that is 10ft long, 3 ft wide and 4ft tall. I still do not think that this is big enough for them. If you are planning on breeding, it will never work. If I were you I would change my name and get back on here to ask crucial question such as cage size, heating, and basking spots so that you can provide the proper care for your monitors. Just do something about your set up NOW. I have seen first hand what a tegu can do to a savannah(at a pet store); the little one had two toes left, out of 20, and lost more than 3 inches of tail. If you love your monitors, heck even if you don’t please get them the room, and heat that they need. If this was a joke, or something that you found in a pet store next time say so. There are many people here that care deeply about their monitors and are ticked off to no end when they see animals being kept like this. Good luck, and I hope that you take everything in and look at what you are doing.
