sulcata egg question

krim5 Jan 09, 2006 06:42 PM

Okay, so after I found out one of my "females" was actually a male, the damage was already done. Tatiana laid 11 eggs last night. I was convinced that I would destroy the eggs, seeing as I have so many sulcatas now and am turning away potential adoptees every week. But once she laid them, I find it hard not to try and hatch at least one or two. So I have a few questions. What temp range should I incubate? Is it higher temps create more males or females? How long should they incubate for? When should I be able to candle them and see something? Thanks for the help.

From: http://www.tortoise.org/archives/sulcint.html

"We incubate the eggs in vermiculite dampened with water (equal parts by weight). We put a layer of vermiculite in a plastic shoe box and then a layer of eggs. The eggs are covered with more vermiculite. We set the incubator at about 87° F."

" Incubated eggs usually start to hatch in about 90 days and may continue to hatch over a period of 30 days or so."
