WD on the brink of death. Need advice!

kellywood23 Jan 09, 2006 07:35 PM

Hello everyone,

I just went to the local petstore and they just received a baby water dragon in. This poor thing has a nasty case of mouth rot, a broken wrist and has, what I beleive to be, tiny fractures all over it's body. I also beleive that she has MBD.

Instead of sending it back, they decided to let me give it a good home and try to help it.

I am now asking all of you for help on how to help this poor little thing. She does eat a few crickets, but has a hard time catching them so I will be hand feeding her.

I will also be treating her mouth rot with Iodine at least once a day.

Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

The first thing I'd do is taker it to a vet, as they will be able to help you much more than we can. If that isn't an option, you can try posting at:

I tried to get a vet appointment, but he is booked solid for this entire month. That tends to happen when he gets back from vacation.

Thank you for the link though, I will go check it out.

first things first, iodine is toxic and not to be used orally unless you are experienced. the store bought iodine is tincture of iodine, the tincture part means it is iodine in alcahol, usually isopropyl. this is extremely dangerous.
try to get your hands on betadine, it is less dangerous if it is ingested
that being said, a freind of mine is a vetrenary technician, and she has a wd that she nursed back to health from a severe case of mbd(wrists are resorbed completely)
she usually keeps an eye on the herp health forum, post your request on there, she goes by herpitiles.net
