Trying to get this right---My first time with EGGS!!

xelda Jul 24, 2003 09:34 PM

Okay, I've got the perlite, slightly moistened. The eggs are positioned just the way they were laid. I don't have an incubator, but I'm maintaining the temperature at a steady 82-84 degrees. Here's what I'm not sure about: How do I know I've got the right amount of humidity? I put in a couple bottle caps full of water to help, but I'm not sure if it's enough. And another thing, am I supposed to bury the eggs? I sprinkled just enough perlite to cover them.

I also feel guilty, because I must've taken the eggs a little too early. I saw the mom come back lookin for them, probably to finish burying them. Poor thing! She looks so exhausted!

Yes, I've already read that. But I don't have the right tools for all that precision.

I have read Albey's and it is helpful but everyone doesnt have a scale to measure exactly.

I have my eggs in small plastic containers that I store in an incubator. I just keep an eye on the eggs. You really shouldnt have to add much water after you originally mist the perlite. When I open the containers there is usually small beeds of water on the lid or the sides of the container. Be careful, you dont want to much, but if it seems really dry then there isnt much humidity so you might want to mist a little. Again I cant emphasize enough on not adding to much moisture.

Good luck!
