Strange Shedding Question - please help ease my mind

crazyreptilelady Jan 10, 2006 06:14 AM

I have posted here a while back about this girl. She is an 05 hatchling I purchased in late November. After I got her I noticed a problem with her eye. The vet took a look and she is completely blind in one eye - there is nothing in the eye except the globe itself - no pupil or anything. Her other eye is normal.
She has been eating great and has been active. I think she is beautiful so I am not returning her to the breeder. I was gone a few days for christmas and when I returned she took up laying in her water bowl. I assumed she was getting ready to shed cause she hadn't in my care yet. After a few days I took her out to inspect her and she look dull but not did not have the pink belly or blue eyes. About a week later I took another look and the eyes were blue. Defiantely going to shed. Well it has been over a week since then and no shed. Her head looks very dry - like white inbetween the scales. Like she has a bad case of dry skin. She still spends probably half the day in the water and the other half in the warm hide. So she has been in shed since a Dec 28th. Has anyone seen this before. Is there anything I can do to help. She has 2 hides. The temps are good. The humidity is 65% and I mist the tank everyday. Please help - if there is anything I can do to help her. My other ball has never been like this.

Thanks

Sometimes they can take a little longer to shed. Just ensure she has fresh water and the humidity is kept high for the next week or so. I suspect she will shed very soon.

I bought my first ball python in October, and she had her first shed in mid-November. That shed was also a pretty slow process.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.
