I was just wondering if anyone here works at a zoo as a keeper? If anyone does, could you please tell me a little of what your job actually consists of and how much income you make. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I volunteer at the Memphis zoo, I shadow the reptile curator and keepers. I can't tell you anything about the salary, other than I know it's not a whole lot to get by on, but I've seen them do everything from day - to-day feeding, husbandry, research, and educating the public. Setting up new housing for new additions, hand-feeding stubborn eaters, taking the komodo dragon with a lacerated tongue to the vet.... you get the idea. Of course, like I said, I'm not a real keeper, but I plan on becoming one.
