Does anyone know of any good websites online to do more reading about kingsnakes (californian in particular). Such as how they behave in the wild, their diet and how they obtain it etc. I just want to learn more about these amazing creatures!

I Think I heard that Brian Hubbs is coming out with a book on these snakes.
His first book on Mountain Kingsnakes contains tremendous detailed info on those snakes, so I'm sure the Cal king book will also be a valued resource. Be on the look out for that.
I don't recall any specific sites that contain more than general info.
Cal kings spend most of the time underground, and they are able to thermoregulate and feed under there, but only in their specific habitat of choice. In Spring, since the ground has lost alot of its heat energy over the Winter, snakes may surface more often to thermoregulate. Individuals may be on the move for various reasons in Spring and Summer and Fall.
I've witnessed Cal kings feeding in the wild just a few times: One eating a fence lizard, one eating an alligator lizard and one eating a gophersnake. Wild-caught Cal kings readily take mice.
Where I live, they may be found in any undisturbed areas, but we notice a much higher concentration in flat, grassy fields where the grass is higher than my boots. I've also seen some come out of a flat, barren field in an industrial area where no lizards were seen at all. Interesting.
