Activity levels: Collared vs Mali Uro

bradtort Jan 10, 2006 10:30 AM

Sometime I'd like to get a desert lizard, and I'm considering collareds and uros. Specifically a Mali uro since it seems to be a good starter uro and of a size I can accomodate.

I like to have animals that do more than hide or sit like a rock under a heat lamp. I'd like to have a lizard that is interested in its surroundings, likes to climb around and investigate.

I currently keep tortoises, both russians and leopards. They are fairly active animals. And because they are herbivores I'd like to got with a Uro to simplify diet preparation. I also understand that uros eat more than greens and flowers and need some seeds, beans, and maybe a bug every once in awhile.

So, are Mali's active, or do they tend to be stationary basking rocks ? :->

Hi both Uros and collards fit your description of what you want. Now if you have tortoise pens and tubs like me the space requirements for both species should be nothing new.

I actually use a varation of my Russian Tortoise salad for my Uros, adding some more high plant protien items and the seeds.
