The trip home...PLEASE ANSWER TONIGHT!!! (7/24)

Hey all...I just thought of something that is pretty important. I'm driving an hour and a half (each way) to pick up my new baby tomorrow morning. My question is this: I have a plastic shoebox container designated for traveling for my little guy...Do I leave it in the box that it was shipped in until I get home? Or transfer it to the container first? If I put it in the container, what do I do about water?? THANKS!!!

If it is packed in an insulated box, just leave it in the box for the ride home. Pretty much, even if it is not in an insulated box, I think I would leave it in the box (After checking to make sure the snake is alive and in good condition!) I would just insure I placed the box so that it was not in direct sunlight, or sitting in front of an air conditioning vent on the ride home. If the ride is only an hour and a half, I wouldn't worry about water. I moved with mine last year and only gave them water at night when we were in hotels, they did just fine.

All you need to worry about is temperature extreams. Good Luck!

I would leave him in the box he was shipped in until you get home. Just open the box before starting home, and check the temp inside to make sure it didn't get too warm. Then put everything back the way it was until you get home. The insulation will give him a good ride home. Be sure the sun doesn't hit the box, even if the car has a/c. And don't put the box on the floor - some parts of the floor get really hot (from the transmission, I guess) If your car doesn't have a/c, then you can take a cooler along with a cool pack, since the one he was shipped with will probably be thawed by then.

The fewer times you move him from one cage to another, the better (less stress). Just follow the info on the care sheet for the first 3 weeks and he should do great!

Have fun!

Thank you so much for the help...I just want to make sure that my baby gets the best care possible! I'll do exactly what you suggested.

Kathy--Congratulations on your son's wedding and thanks again for everything. I'm sure I'll love the one that you picked out!
