Confused on what size trough for ackies any insight??

jusmebabe Jan 10, 2006 09:07 PM

I am planning on purchasing a trio of ackies (not sure red or yellow as they are covered in dirt). They are adults approx. 2ft.
I have looked at a few troughs but just not sure what size they would require. I have looked online but didn't find any info.
So would a 50gal, 70gal, or 100gal give them the space required?
If there is a site I can read up on please let me know as I did a search and couldn't find anything about this.
Thanx,
Joel

Bigger is better, use the biggest you can set up. They love dirt, so when you use a larger enclosure you can get more dirt in the bottom for them to dig in. Good luck.

Pam,

Where do you get yor dirt??? Home Depot??? And if so, what brand of dirt do you get? Looks like some pretty good dirt you got there.

Hey Craig, try peat from home depot. It would be outside and comes in large packs. It is only 4 dollars for a lot of soil. Mix it with water when you get it home and then with sand. This holds great burrow and is relatively cheap. Good Luck

Hi Craig,

It is a combination of the forest bed, home depot dirt and sand. They seem to like it. I can't dig dirt where I live because it is really hard clay with lots of rocks, so the mix is a good alternative.

So peat mixed with sand. Is the 50lb bags of playground sand ok?
I bought a 2X2X4 trough today. The next size up was a 2x2x5.
I am reading and looking at different info so I won;t have to ask so many questions..
Thanx again for the info..
