Feeding F/T How Many Times ???

havic Jan 10, 2006 11:41 PM

Can you defrost a mouse befor it becomes unuseable and you must throw it out? Like when you feed all your snakes and you end up with a left over. Can you refreez once ? Or do you toss after first defrosting?

Some refreeze once. I do not. Normally, if I have leftovers in the morning, I put the thawed rodent in the refer and then give it to other animals that evening. As long as it hasn't started stinking, I'll "reuse" it once.

i have heard that you can refreeze once, cant remember the source though, as long as there is no smell there is nothing to worry about.

Why hang on to a $1.00 toss it - if not one more freeze and defrost shouldn't be too bad - afterall balls are designed to be able to eat carrion (roadkill) in the wild - but I'd toss it or feed it to another snake - stay fresh.

Has this been documented anywhere? You would think if carrion was a common food source, WC balls would be easy to convert to FT?

We dont like to refreeze them because of the way they look after you defrost them for the second time. they dont smell bad or anything but they just dont look right. But we do it because we dont like wasting the money. but if it is a health issue we will start tossing the extras. our snakes health is more important than saving a buck. :P
