Raising Roaches???

freakytah Jan 11, 2006 12:18 AM

I was wondering how many hissing roaches it takes to start breeding them on my own. I can only get em at one store and they're 6 bucks each so its a little too spendy, especially for a bug that supposedly reproduces like crazy! Any info or good sites is much appreciated!

I think you need a starting colony of about 20 adults, mostly female (really only need a single male I beleive).

There is alot of discussion of breeding roaches in the feeder forum here at kingsnake.

Hissers really are not good feeders for dragons. They work well for larger monitors and tegus. The best species are Blaptica dubia (very popular), Blaberus discoids, and a few others. It only takes a couple roaches per day compaired to dozens of crickets. You can read some info on them under Help & Support.
