Fruitionx Help with leash training?!?!?!?!

theredneckgal Jul 24, 2003 10:41 PM

Ok, First of I have to tell you Rico is beautiful. His coloring is amazing! Now that your all buttered up...lol can I ask you to please give me all the insight you have with getting Rico on the leash. We have put Drake's leash around his neck to get him used to the idea of "what ever that thing is, it is not out to get me! But I can't get him to let me get his feet in the leather part of the leash. He hisses and puffs and squirms till I put him down! His temperment at times matches that of my children. You would think they were related! LOL Anything you have to say would be a great help. Thanks in advance for the advice.

LOL that reminds me of when we were trying to get ricky to try on the harness. he's so clever, we'd spend all this time veeeeery carefully wiggling one arm into the harness, then go to the other side and as soon as we'd gotten that one in he just took the other arm out. he kept looking at us like "you've got to be joking."

hold the side you put the leg in in place while youre putting the other arm in. Eventually they stop fighting about it, although they still dont help out LOL.
Sometimes its a 2 person job LOL
But hell get used to it.

Thank you for your comments on rico hes a great little guy.
Here's how i do it one person...since my fmaily is terrified of rico or any lizard, no matter what i do/say!
~First take the harness and get it over his head.
~next once it is over his head put your lizard in one hand, holding his back against the palm of your hand, pinky on his belly and pointer finger below his head and tumb jut between his shoulders...
~ in that position use your other hand to manuver his legs into the harness...
~ once his legs are in place him on the ground, keeping a short Lead on him
~ tighten the leash to his size and have fun...
Sorry for that explaination its hard to write it out lol
I hope it works !!! keep me updated, he should get better as you go.
If he starts to thrash around just wait a minute and try again, it might take a while but it will tame him down lol
Good luck!!!!!

Thank you for the advice I am going to try several of the ideas I have gotten and see if once and for all we can't get Drake on his leash! I know he will love it when we do because he can go outside! Thanks to the rest of you for the stories of putting your leashes on your Uros. You made me giggle as I pictured these uros being all sqirmmy.

u can not really train them to wear the leash, but it is less and less of a struggle to put it on every time u do it. First get one leg throught the appropriate hole, and then ohld that side of the harness over your uros back so there is no way it can slip out, then do the same with the other leg while still holding it on. After that pinch the ends of the harness together untill you tighten it.
