Poll...what are the percentages for reasons you're in this???

bpconnection Jan 11, 2006 09:53 AM

I started off breeding b/c I thought it would be cool and fun, and I thought I could make some $$$ at it...
75% - Fun
25% - $$$

A year later, it's absolutely changed!
75% - Love of each of my snakes!
20% - Fun
5% - $$$

Where would you all see yourselves and has it changed at all? No wrong answers...

Me myself, I started off in this for the love of the different morphs out there that I couldnt afford. The only way the average person can get the different morphs he or she is interested in is by producing them yourself. Of course there is some hope of making some kind of money in there to get even more morphs but its not the main cocern here.

I would say precentage wise,
55% for the love of the snakes
35% for the fun of breeding these different morphs
10% for the money.

Its really hard to put this in percentages but that pretty much does it right there.

i have to admit, i orrigionally got into bps because my gf loves snakes, but she wasnt allowed to have them at home. so we got one, to be kept at my house.
i then discovered that they make great pets, good for a college student that doesnt have alot of extra free time, and they have great perrsonalities, and are very friendly.(at least my cbs are...)
i then fell in love with the species, and this started my adiction... now my gf has to convince me not to get more. (dont tell her i have one i am possibly picking one up at the end of the week hehehe)
i am safe saying this here i hope, she will be buisy untll friday...
i dont exect to make money with them, but hopefully i will get enough hatchlings to pay for their food.

so i have to say my reasons for keeping bps are as follows.
they are good pets 40%
love of/fascination with snakes 40%
challenge of breeding new morphs 15%
$$$ 5%

I suppose you mean why do we breed?

1. First and foremost for the love of balls - now that I've seen them hatch out and have some that I am actually raising from the egg it's a whole new world! (75%?)

2. After years of having normals we wanted some morphs in order to be able to afford the morphs we want we have to breed or we have to breed our hets to get the morphs we want (10%)

3. Because my boys finally talked me into it and it's a great family thing to do - trust me if you have kids with a passion outside of tv and video games you go with it. (10%)

4. Because it drives my hubby crazy (4%)

5. Just because (1%)

We have been doing ball pythons commercially since 1995 but have loved them since the late 70s. They are the perfect pet python in our opinion. Which is why we chose to do them commercially since the market will go from breeder to pet and will be firmly established as a standard pet item. I see doing this for another 25 years. You can't do that unless LOVE of the animal being worked with is a big part of it.

50% love of the animal
50% commercial
