I've got an adult and I want to add another...best way? (question for Anthony as well)

koashmar Jan 11, 2006 10:07 AM

I've got an adult female crestie residing in a 29g setup. She's doing wonderful and has grown like a weed!

The problem is life and finances got in the way, and I never got around to adding another female or two while she was small enough to match the ones being sold locally...

What is the best way to introduce new cresties? I believe I've read she might eat them if they're too small, so what is an appropriate "grow up" tank size for the babies and at what size do you think I could safely put them in with her?

Anthony - do you ever sell adults that just aren't up to par for breeding (color wise) but still make great pets?

I suggest waiting till any new additions are almost the same size as the one you have before putting them into the same cage. If there is a too great size difference you risk the larger female dominating the smaller ones, eating all the food etc. However the cage you have is quite large and if it has alot of plants (fake or real) there may be enough room to ensure fighting between the geckos won't happen. I wouldn't put in any other females that are less than an inch in size (either total length or body length if tailless). Make sure you have multiple feeding dishes on either side of the cage, to limit food competition.

You definitely don't want to put babies/juvies in a cage with an adult. If you get smaller geckos, just get a plastic kritter keeper or two...they cost about $3 or $4 and are super easy to clean.

I do sometimes sell young adults (male and female) and proven adult males that I'm no longer using as breeders. The only thing I don't generally do is sell proven, breeding females...doesn't make much sense.

We can't talk "business" on the forum, but shoot me an email whenever you're ready to add some geckos.

Thanks,
Anthony

I must be an idiot...I can not seem to find a method of contacting you via your website. I've looked high and low (great site by the way!)....I'm sure it's right in front of my face, but I just can't seem to find it...

The only e-mail contact I see is the "shipping quote" addy. Would you like me to use the same one?
