Should I feed?

Kendergirl Jan 11, 2006 03:14 PM

Well, I got my first BP today! He's a little male CBB...currently feeding on live fuzzies. I should mention this is also my first snake, but I've been keeping other herps for the last 10 years.

I was told to wait a few days before attempting to feed, but it looks to me like he's hungry. Since I got him home (just a 5 min drive), he's been pacing back and forth, occasionally sitting with his nose up in a corner. Would it be ok to try feeding, or should I wait?

I saw him drinking earlier, which was pretty cool!

Also, I could use some tips on how to go from live to F/T. I don't mind doing live for awhile, but eventually I want to get him on F/T if I can.

Others might disagree, saying it might only add more stress. I usually offer food within the first day or two, and at LEAST 1/2 the time they eat. I don't think it could hurt, but don't expect anything.

all 6 of mine have taken food within a few days of getting them, but if it doesnt accept it, leave it alone for a week then try again.
i usually give them 2 days to get used to their surroundings, then try to feed.

WOOOOOOHOOOOO Happy dance!

He ate a fuzzy mouse! I missed the constriction, but got to watch everything else. It was rather fasinating. For just a second I was worried it was too large (his neck is so small in comparison), but he got it down. I can't believe how really happy this makes me! LOL

This was a live fuzzy, as that's what they said he was eating before. Obviously, I want to move to F/T as soon as possible, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Should I P/K on the next meal (ugh...I hate the thought). Or should I get a few more meals into him first?

Really, any tips you guys can share is awesome! I am the proverbial sponge.

I shall now resume my happy dance!!!
