has this ever been tossed around?

Just for yucks, has anyone on the forum ever contacted Wilms in Germany to see if he'd send any of his U. Thomasi over here? I'm sure theres plenty of red tape and boku bucks involved, but I can't see why a qualified breeder couldn't get a pair.

I have never asked Mr Wilms that specific question but my guess would be 'no'.

Now, you might stand a better chance of getting U thomasi if you happen to be an established and well known research facility and you attempt to contact the Sultan of Oman to get his permission (which I believe it takes) for importing a couple specimans for research. Chances are though, they would be bodies rather than live specimans.

Hmmmmm the sultan thing is right out, but I suspect theres some way to get cb Thomasi out of Europe. This is wacky I know but its the winter and things are kinda slow.

Thomas is responsible for a group of these nice Uros -even after he has changed from the Karlsruhe Museum to the Reptilium reptile zoo- but they are not his private property. Thus he is not even allowed to sell them.
Afak "his" specimens and all their offspring is still property of the government of Oman.
Besides that I am convinced that he would not sell any offspring to private herpers unless a significant popoulation of regularily reproducing captive specimens has been established.
And the situation is still far from that...

Greetings from Germany

Wouldn't it be phenomenal to set up a webchat with him though? Just to be able to talk to him!

I don"t know who Ingo is but, that sounded like a pretty knowledgable, straight up answer. You'd think the sultan of Oman would have more pressing issues, than watching over some funny looking uros. Yes it would be nice to get Mr. Wilms or one of his proteges on the forum.

Hi,

Thomas is notoriusly overloaded with work.
So ist even difficult to have an email discussion with him.
Hence I doubt he will be available for webchats or similar stuff.
The only secure chance to meet him is to attend the regular Bad Dürkheim DGHT Meetings
