NEW KERALA (India) 11 January 06 Kitten-killing python sent to game reserve
Nelspruit, South Africa: A South African man took mercy on an African rock python that ate his kitten, calling a snake catcher instead of killing the snake.
Aboobaker Patel also obeyed the law, since rock pythons are a protected species in South Africa, News24 said.
"I'd previously seen a snake expert being interviewed on television and took down the number that appeared on the screen, so I was able to call him," Patel said.
The python in Patel's garden was a comparatively small one at 1.5 meters or less than 5 feet. Rock pythons are one of the largest snakes in the world and can reach a length of more than 20 feet.
The snake was released in the Mthethomusha Game Reserve.
