THE ADVERTISER (Adelaide, Australia) 12 January 06 New calls for NT croc hunts
Planned crocodile trophy hunts in Papua New Guinea - costing more than $240,000 - have sparked new calls to allow the safaris in the Northern Territory.
Federal MP David Tollner yesterday said it was "scandalous" the lucrative hunts were not happening in Australia. The Country Liberal MP from NT also called Environment Minister Ian Campbell, a coalition colleague, a "dill" for previously knocking back the proposal. Mr Tollner urged the NT Government to ignore Mr Campbell's ban and allow croc shooting safaris as a means to raise money for poor Aboriginal communities.
In what is claimed to be a world first, Queenslander Mick Pitman is advertising the PNG hunt for cashed up big game hunters willing to fork out about $240,000 to shoot the prehistoric reptiles.
