any suggestions on improving my tank ? is everything ok ?

zawakees Jul 25, 2003 12:01 AM

i have three thermometers and a hygrometer. is the fake grass ok for the substrate, it said on the cover that it doesn't irritate the skin ! Diablo (my bp) is ALWAYS on the right side, he never sleeps in the humidity box. i have a uth, though i only turn it on at night, with the switch dimmed down. he still hasn't shed since i got him (2 months ago).

any suggestions would be helpful, thanks !

Yoiu need an undertank heating mat for belly heat. you can use the human heating mat. Other than that, you're fine.

the floor and the strip thermometers that you stick on the tank don't work, I've tried them before.

I have to agree 100000% with the ReptileFreak. I had a round thermometer, like you have, and it constantly read 82 degrees. I recently bought a digital thermometer, put it at the same heighth as the round one, and the digital reads 91.5 with the lamp on, and 81.5 with the lamp off, at night. Those sticky ones are not reliable at all. You can pick up a digital thermometer at Walmart for about $15. Other than that, the tank looks great.

I might answer this for myself but why is one end of your tank sitting on a VHS tape? Is this where the UTH is? I also agree that you need to leave the UTH on during the day. Maybe find something else to set the tank on if you are afraid of buring the wood with the UTH but I am not sure if it will even. I use a human heating pad on my tank and I leave the cover on. I have it on High most of the time and never have and issue with it. Like I said, I was just curious as to why your snake lives at an angle.

Wal Mart, Target, Walgreens. They are about $10 and have 3 settings. I have seen where people have had 2 dig. themometers with one on each end. Hope that helps. My baby is also pretty young. We have one of her siblings in a different container and he also took a long time to shed. He is currently shedding this week and we bought him back in April. He also does not eat on his own so he has to be taken to the pet store to be fed by a professional. Sad Lil Dude. Good Luck
