Baby leos mouth not closing all the way? Possible broken legs?

deathinfire Jan 12, 2006 12:51 AM

This is the first I've noticed in a baby leo. But he seems like he cant really close his mouth. He's not exactly a newborn, hes bout 3 months old. But its like he cant close his mouth all the way. He also has never hunted since he was born, I've had to hand feed him meal worms/crickets since day 1. I have a dish of calcium in his cage and everything is set up perfectly.

He also walks as if he has broken front legs. He doesnt lift his body up at all. He's always laying down and when he moves, he doesnt extend his legs all the way. I've noticed this almost from the first month on. When he needs to shed, he doesn't seem to even try. I always find him the next day in his humid hide with his shed full on and I have to take it off. Everything comes off really easily, even the toes, its just like he doesnt want to do it, or he doesnt have the will to do it.

Does anyone know what this might be? I've talked to a few people already and they've ruled out MDB since hes so young, it hasnt had any time to set in. I'm not sure what to do with him other than keep him warm, hydrated and with a full belly.

Any ideas?

Being young does not rule out MBD. They can even hatch with it if the mother wasnt properly suplimented. That is what it sounds like to me. The bones are so soft even hhis jaw, sounds like severe MBD to me.
You need to get it to a vet, they wil likely be able to give you liquid calcium, that should help reverse it.

Will do. I went ahead and bought some liquid calcium for the time between now and the vets. Shouldn't be long, but better he start getting some right away I imagine.

it very well could be MBD is he hatched with it. could also be congenital deformities, or both. A vet visit is in order anyway to really rule out mbd and get some liquical if necc
