RI in rescued savannah

herpluver Jul 25, 2003 12:45 AM

man i swear i have the worst luck. i just got this little guy last friday and now it seems he has an RI. his nose is healing from being rubbed raw, and today we heard him "hiss" and after watching him for a while we saw a bubble. i raised the temps right away to about 100 degree's and modified his cage to hold more ehat and humidity. so what else can i do? can heat alone fix this? we are calling the vet tomarrow just to be sure, and i have some baytril if the vet says to go that way. one more thing, i noticed that his nose was wet earlyier and now it is dry, don't know if that helps ya

Baytril may work if the RI happens to be caused by a Baytril sensitive bacteria. Baytril doesn't kill everything, though. I'd see what the vet has to say. He may want to culture some of the discharge and see what's causing it, then do a sensitivity test if it's not one of the common bacteria.
