Lele a hornworn question

schwartzenstobe Jan 12, 2006 12:58 PM

Hi Lele, I read your article and I just want to be clear. I have cocoons from this past week. What should I do with them? I bought a cup of worms and I fed them out and 2 changed and they are still in the cup. Should I bury them in some soil? Any help is appreciated. Thanks Matt

Hi Matt,

If they just pupated be sure not to handle them until their skin is hardened. Go to the article and look at the changes that take place - you do not want to handle until the look like the 2nd pic.

Do you want them emerging within a month or so? Then all you need to do is to place them in a container with some paper towels (they will think they are underground) in a safe place (away from cats, kids, chameleons) expose them to regualr daylight and temps - where do you live? BE SURE to provide a stick for them to climb up on and expand their wings.

If you are going to mate them you obviously need a male and female. You can tell by the pupal case.

Hope this helped
