ESU Open-Air Cages???

morgan_so_cal Jan 12, 2006 02:16 PM

Anyone use the ESU open air cages for snakes? they are relatively inexpensive. I'm curious how escape-proof they are for kings...

i would not use one for a king;prefer something that can hold some humidity.

I mostly keep mountain kings, not florida. Humidity is not an issue. I just want to make sure of escapes...

Both zonata and pyro's do need an area of higher humidity, and I don't think the ESU cages would be very practical for them. Cleaning would also be a problem and maintaining ambient temprature and a thermal gradient would also be a problem. Those cages were designed for chameleons and small lizards such anoles that can be maintained in an arboreal habitat without substrate. The ESU cages aren't even very practical for the animals they were designed to house. The cloth tears easy and the whole cage has to be disassembled to clean. The cloth also becomes very disfigured when heated. I'd look into an alternative method of houseing if I was you.

i have only used them for crested geckos and i would say you wouldnt want to put a king in them, and the cleaning of them is miserable just from my experience, i am a fan of either glass tanks or plastic sterelites
