I NEED A LITTLE HELP THANKS

peach749 Jan 12, 2006 04:58 PM

hello everyone I was wounding if anyone can help. years past I just let my dragons cool down with lights and everything still the same way. they would just lay at the other end and sleep or get in the basking light and sleep. but a lot of people have told me to cut the hours back over a period of time and then shut everything off. I did this and they all slept great and no one lost any weight at all, which is good.
the ??? is its been 2 months now and most are showing sign they wanted to wake up so I did. lights back on new uvb bulbs and everything. the thing I need help with is when should the appetite come back full force, for the first week I was thinking of greens only and maybe a few roaches, then hopefully by next week they will be back to normal, also how long after they wake up should I start to breed them. as of now they eating a little bit of the greens and they jumped on the roaches when I offered them, but I wont to let them wake 100% and back to normal before I start giving the feeders or does it matter . it has been going on 2 days now. they seem like there still holding back on the food so when should they come around to there normal self's. also if there wanting feeders more then greens should I give them what they wont or let them nibble on the greens.
thanks Casper

Once the lights are back on at full duration, I would feed them as you would normally, before they went into brumation. Breeding can take place a couple weeks after they wake up. The male probably be happy to breed at day one, but I think it's good to get the female at least, eating regularly again so she can maintain as much of her weight before getting fully filled with eggs.

I would wait one to two weeks, then introduce the male to the female(s) so he can breed them. Once you have observed mating behaviour a few times, or they have been together for a full day or two (providing he isn't over breeding the females and stressing them out or there are signs of actually fighting or injuries), then take him out and let the girls relax and concentrate on eating and producing eggs.

One session of mating typically is all th at is needed for the entire breeding season, though you could re-indroduce the male after the first two or three clutches, though I reallly don't think it's need as the femals can retain sperm up to a year.
