Barking Tree Frog... no more barking

WhoNeedsCats Jan 12, 2006 11:18 PM

I adopted a male barking tree frog a little less than a month ago. He barked quite often for the first week but lately I haven't heard a peep from him. Is this normal?

Here's his setup- 20 gallon glass aquarium, mesh top. Substrate of organic potting soil with a thin covering of spaghum (sp?) moss. Large shallow pool of water for his pleasure on one end, a healthy (chemical free, of course) pothos plant in the middle, and a thick store-bought Jungle Vine wrapping around the place for him to climb. Plenty of artificial plants to encourage hiding and climbing. I mist his home often to keep the humidity level high and the temp stays between 72 and 79. I haven't seen him eating, but I assume he is because the crickets are dwindling in numbers.

I haven't been able to find much information on why and when they bark and was hoping someone could fill me in and let me know what I could do to his Home to make it better. I love the little guy.

My male seems to bark when the temp is between 76 and 80 he seems "happiest" at those temps. Day or night.
If you mist him when the lights are out he might bark to, I mist mine nightly(1 male and 2 females).
I house mine in a 30 gallon extra high tank . Your set up sounds fine. I wet paper towels in bottom of tank which I throw out every few days and replace though ofcourse your set up looks nicer with soil and is fine.
your male might not be barking due to humidity and if you increase temp slightly that might do it to. Your temps now are fine just I wanted to mention since I started keeping them bit warmer 76 to 80 day/night.
They seem more active male barks more. Misting nightly is great to . Aged water or bottled Spring water NOT that reverse osmosis or DI water is great.
If you ever get more they get a long great the higher the tank the better .
I have had mine 2 years but they never mated . No eggs anyway .
