Anyone using power sun mv bulbs?

safo Jan 13, 2006 02:28 AM

I just read that panthers don't like mv bulbs, that they strees them out. Had that bulb in for a few months now, was told was a good bulb for my cham. Just wondering if anyone else uses them?

I did, but I never saw him basking, even though there was correct temperature at the location. Now my bearded dragons are enjoying it much much more.

Have a look at www.reptileuv.com .It has a detailed analysis on this lamp.I have researshed the topic my self too and I was told by expierienced people that is appropriate for large enclosures where the animals can spend enough time off the lamp cause it produces strong UV radiation but have a look your self

I agree with above posts and, having used them in the past, I found the ballast to blow out for no reason. It sat completely stationary and level (as per ZooMed instructions - should not be angled) and would just blow. They have a one year guarantee, and I had to not only have it replaced twice, but had to pay for shipping it back to them and be without a bulb. I had backup reptisun's but since using the MVB did not have new ones (reptisun).

The 160 watt seemed more stable but as pointed out you need to have them a good distance form basking site. Personally? I won't use them again and stick to the reptisun 5.0.

Here's another link with testing info

I am currently using a zoomed 10.0 for my new cham i got today, i have a 5.0 on my dult with a power sun, i had raised my other chams with the zoo med 5.0, the exo terras have a weaker output.
The direct basking spot is about 2 feet away from the light is that far enuff?
