My Old English sheepdog Grizzly was operated on Weds afternoon.
He has had loose bowels and throwinging up off and on for about a month. BUT... remained happy, playful, and fine otherwise.
Figured he ate something Naughty outside. It was never anything that would last, so we did not worry (YET)
Then, after Christmas he seemed to not have his normal VORACIOUS appetite. He was leaving half a bowl of food, or more . Anyway no throwing up , but just did not want to eat last weekend. I knew something big was going on when he stops eating.
We took him in Monday, they did an xray and took blood. all with a muzzle as he did not like them doing things to him :0(
and they saw a mass but had no idea what it could be, and did inform us it may be cancer/ or some obstruction.
They gave him a pill that would leave little white capsules in his intestines after in there a while, told us to come back in the morning.
If they saw the white capsules in another xray, it would mean they were stopped by something, if not then they were passed.
Well they saw the white capsules the next day and knew there was a mass , stopping them. And asked us to bring him back weds morning for an ultra sound. Which we did and we had to leave him because he was giving them such a hard time (growling) My sweet puppy, hehehehe they had to sedate him.
We got a call from a surgeon who said he saw the xrays and would not bother with the ulta sound, as he would most likey have to go in for an exploratory anyway.
He said he would stop the operation IF he found that he was loaded with cancer, which was a concern at this point, and ask what we would want him to do.
Well this sure made our day SAD, HORRIBLE, SHOCKING thinking we left him for a test and now may never see him again, I was blown away, this guy is my big goofy, Clown and sweetheart. I was done for the day, could not think of anything but Grizzly and I never got to say goodbye
We waited from 2 until almost 7 in the evening Weds, figured he did not call "saying what should I do" , so we were praying he did not find cancer.
They did not, they found that his lymph nodes were dilated in his stomach, and leaking, and one was hard, he took that one out and will do a biopsy, but feels it will still not be cancer.
This seems to be a protein losing diease and can be managed mainly through diet. ( He loses much needed protien) when these are dilated. They do not know why this happens.
So I have to cook chicken and boil turkey and mix with rice and let him have veggies for snacks. And he should return to his rammy self real soon after his stitches all heal up.
So he's gonna be on a lowfat diet all the time now. But thank God I still have him, I was such a wreck. They were going to keep him until last night, but called us yesterday, late morning and said he was up and giving them a hard time again, and being extremely vocal NON- STOP, hehhehee I knew he was okay, LOL
So they wanted him out of there , they said with a laugh, ehehehee. So he's a bit sore , but leaves his quilt now and grabs his toys and sits on the tile so I guess he will be okay!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Thats my sigh of releive, time to CRASH !
