Swolen lower jaw - again

dleeroach Jan 13, 2006 02:40 PM

I've posted this picture before - about 2 months ago when the problem first started. At that time, I took this guy to three different vets who specialize in reptiles. All of them told me that they have no idea what is causing this. However, the condition improved on its own a couple of weeks after it first came up. Well, I went to check on him today and saw that the swelling of the lower jaw has come back again. It's definitely not mouth rot or an RI as I and multiple vets have checked for both. I'm at a loss for what is causing this. I would appreciate any insight that anyone could offer. Thanks to all for your input!

There was a thread done on common and non common health problems in bps about a week or so ago. I raised the idea of people posting pics so we could all see these issues to better inform us and help identify problems faster. Someone posted a sad but interesting responce of their story with sick bp and swelling in the head and jaw area. I suggest looking back for the thread as it had a link to a website filled with pics, doctor notes, lab tests, and results. Good luck!

Did any of the vets try to aspirate fluid from those swellings with a syringe to look at under a microscope and to culture?

Is there some area in the cage where the snake could be inserting its snout and pushing or levering against that lower jaw?
