RES sick/normal?

mixitup Jan 13, 2006 05:48 PM

I have two red-eared sliders, and recently noticed that one's skin has turned pinkish. Its been like this for at over a week now, but he has been eating fine
I've had these two Red-eared sliders for about four years now and don't remember seeing this before
Could this be normal? or is it a symptom of anything?
thanks!

Do you feed a lot of shrimp or a red pellet? When i used to feed Nutrifin gammarus pellets (which are pink) i noticed a pinkish tinge around the scuts on the plastron. This faded after quiting that food.
I doubt that that is the issue unless you've just switched food. My actual first guess would be a skin infection. The pink colour would make me think the skin is irritated or inflamed. Is the skin bumpy, or swollen?
What parametres are you keeping them in, like tank size, lighting, food, etc.
If it is a skin infection, a trip to the vet would be the very best place to start.

Thier food is still the same, and doesn't have a lot of shrimp or red pellet. They're in a tank with a basking dock and a uvb/uva light. They also live with a fish (a blue gruomi).

It doesn't really look bumpy or swollen. It does seem like its irritated, but I'm not sure what would cause it. The other res's skin looks fine.
I'll check the water again, and see if I can figure it out. If its just an irritaion, hopefully its something small.
anyway, thanks!
