Newest additions to my collection, Keith Hillson take a look please......

Hotshot Jan 13, 2006 05:50 PM

I got these from Dwight Good. He did not produce them and had gotten them on trade. So the locale data is not available, however, Keith, I would like to know what your opinion on this one that looks like an OBX or mosaic.

And this one here looks to be possibly AL locale, however thats just a guess....

Your thoughts???

Either way I glad to finally have these two killer snakes in my collection!!

If the first snake is anything... it's an intergrade. Looks like a goini to me.

The 2nd second looks like my GA eastern king... And I would say it's definitely an eastern.

Nice snakes.

The first looks like a south GA from Enge or Still but you'll know more as it grows older. If it develops interband lightening then it is mixed with goini.

The second looks like a typical southern eastern I'd guess N. Carolina, but it is only a guess.

Wow Brian, you're worse then me. I've picked up alot of new mouths to feed lately, LOL
I love all of the common kings, but when push comes to shove, Easterns are at the top of my list. And you my friend, have a couple of beauties. That top one looks like one of those Georgia Eastern kings. And the bottom one, hard to say. I'd guess deeper south. Maybe South Carolina, Georgia, or Florida locality. I like them both, but I really love that top one. I purchased a king from Dwight myself last year. An Axanthic brooks. Anyway, thanks for the pics, I know your going to love them.

Still think the first pic is a goini versus a eastern king... just due to the speckling on the head of the snake, and the stripe that is starting on the neck. I understand striping is not unheard of in easterns... And it would be more common in GA easterns... But that stripe reminds me of baby striped goini...

Nice looking snakes ! I guess if I think the first is neither a Mosaic and for sure not an OBX. My guess is its a Goini X Brooksi cross. That head pattern is more indicative of Brooksi than Goini. The second one looks like a Carolina King but really its hard to pin a locale by look in some cases. Nice score though they are beautiful snakes.

Brian you are running out of non mainstream mutants to name your snakes after lol. You need to hit on some of those Canucks besides Wolverine of course like Wildchild or Puck or something

LOL
Yep Keith I know! I will have to break out my cards and match up the two new kings with a decent name, and Wildchild was one of my favorites!

Either of those kings could have come from SC, NC, GA, Northern FL, or AL. I have found examples exactly like both of those in many locales throughout the southeast. I have seen that kind of variation within one clutch. The widest bands on a getula I have ever seen was a male near Clyattville, 7 bands and a chocolate/mahogany background...he was under a board with a female with pencil thin bands and a black backgournd. Was like looking at two different species! All three of the animals below were found within 20 miles or so of each other.

Pretty nice looking finds!! Thanks for the info, I kind of figured the unusual looking king could be a normal getula. They are so variable within their range that it is pretty hard to figure out exactly what one is looking at with no data. Either way, Im happy to have added them and look forward to them growing and changing coloration.

L.g.getula, what were they sold as?

Hotshot Jan 14, 2006 01:19 PM

Sold as getula. I got them from Dwight Good. He had gotten them on trade. We knew the one was getula, but the other one we werent sure. I know the getula is a variable snake and has lots of nice looking variations. Needless to say, this is why I wanted this one. Going to be interesting to see how it turns out to look once it hits adulthood.
Thanks
Brian
