How do you know it's hypo? It looks like a lot of other banded geckos to me--do you have pictures of others from the same locale for comparison?

This female was found right next to him. I really dont think he is normal. He has more purple though.

I don't know if I'd say "more purple" so much as "less dark brown."
I've seen several with similar coloration and never really considered them hypomelanistic, but I suppose they could be. I'd really like to see more people involved in breeding US Coleonyx; the variability in WC individuals even from the same locales indicates some interesting color patterns could be produced (all I've seen CB so far are "high yellow" morphs).

As of now, I only breed Desert banded geckos and Tucson banded geckos. This spring I am getting san diego, utah, and texas banded geckos. I am also importing Coleonyx elegans this spring and then some more elegans in the fall.
Thanks,
Alex
Coleonyx_Corral@yahoo.com if you have any ?s or want to see more pix. I have dozens, and can take more.
All those pictures and the resulting discussions just add more fuel to my "don't recognize any subspecies of variegatus" fire.
Personally, I'd rather see locality info vs. trying to differentiate between ill-defined subspecies (especially given the extreme variability).
That being said, I have two male abbotti and still have a request for some kind soul to gift me a couple of females; and a pair of brevis who gave me eggs (which didn't hatch) last year.
