I'm new to the Kingsnake Forums

Hi, I'm new to these forums. I recently got an Argentine Black & White Tegu (I had planned to get a Savanna Monitor, but after reading a few articles and visiting the Agama Intl. Website, I decided against it.), he's (or she, too soon to tell) VERY tame, I got him through LLLReptile in San Diego. I've been looking for a good community other than the North Bay Herp Society to link with other Tegu owners.

Heres a picture of him (or still her) laying on his heat rock, its not very good, but I took it at an angle so the camera wouldn't make him nervous:

There are some terrific, helpful people here. If you have any basic questions a search of the archives will probably produce an answer. I'd like to make one suggestion. If that heat rock is plugged in I highly suggest that you remove it or at least unplug it. I do reptile rescue and rehab and I've seen too many animals with severe burns caused by heat rocks. Some of these burns penetrated right thru to the internal organs.

Hey, thanks, and don't worry, I burned MYSELF on that heat rock before my Tegu came (Had to test it), I'm gonna get a Thermostat or some kind of heat filter addon and see if that brings it down low enough, the ambient temp in the cage and my room (80 Degrees) keeps it warm enough for my Tegu to preferre it to the Sand I got.

Nice pic! LLL Reptile produces some nice tegus. I have 2 arg. red females from two different individuals. Both though originated from LLL and our great! Here's a pic of one of the female sub-adults. You should have great luck with yours!

Take care!

Greg
