Don't Like Jungle Mix?

JerJel Jan 14, 2006 07:33 PM

I have a male and a female crestie, kept in separate 20H tanks. Recently I decided to switch from paper towels to more natural substrates. I put ESU Reptile Jungle Mix Lizard Litter in the male's cage, and he stopped going down to the floor of the cage. He stayed on his branch all the time, and didn't even seem to be going down for food. Then I put him back on paper towels and put the Jungle Mix in with the female. Formerly, she spent most of her time on the bottom, but now she's not going down either. Is there a problem here? The Jungle Mix contains "organic soil, fine grain sand, vermiculite, peat moss, orchid bark and green tree moss." It has a lot of what look like little sticks in it. Is this uncomfortable for the geckos or something?

It may be that they just need to get used to the change.
Is there an elevated place you can put the food for a while to allow them to eat w/o having to walk on the stuff?
Then again, all that mixed stuff may end up getting stuck on their feet & maybe thay don't like it so much...?
Good luck.
