What should I use ?

Demetrius Jan 14, 2006 10:54 PM

Next weekend we have a large pet expo and our reptile club will be having a large educational display. At most of our shows we use papertowel as subsrate but we have decided to go all out for this show and do really attractive enclosures .So what is a safe substrate that is cheap and attractive . The animals would only be on it for about fourteen hours total . Also the substrate would be for more tropical species including Jungle Carpet Pythons , Boa constrictor longicaudas and blood pythons . Thank you .

Try the new colored Care Fresh that is out now. They offer colors like Yello, Blue, Green, Purple, plus a few others. Plus they are cheap.

Thanks for the reply but I am hoping to find something more natural looking , I would even like to possibly plant some of the enclosures . What would a safe natural looking substate be , and what are some good non-toxic plants . Thanks .

aspen is a good choice for darker snakes and bark or coconut products for lighter colored snakes, the contrast is what makes the snakes stand out.i would be leary of products that have dyes in them.have fun!

Thanks for the reply .We are a educational society and they animals in the enclosure will be for display only . We have others that we allow people to handle . What do you guys think of coconut fiber like ZooMeds Eco Earth , is it okay ? I have aspen for the colubrids and sand for our desert lizards .
