Breeding crickets 4 my dragons...???

xxradxx Jan 15, 2006 08:33 AM

So I have been trying to set up a little cricket colony so I can save a little cash, but I don't know whole lot about it. I finally read somewhere to put a dish of moist sand in there, so I've got them laying their eggs. The thing is, the sand is pretty hard to keep moist withought soaking down the eggs...Is it ok to soak them ? What should I do to get them to hatch ? I have been putting the dishes in mason jars to try and keep the humidity up, but so far, no luck. How long should they take to hatch ? Any info would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks
Alex

put dish of damp pete moss inside cage of cricket. raise temp with undertank heeter so they wil hatch faster.

You can keep the sand/peatmoss moist by lightly misting. Typically after the females have had time to lay eggs, take out the dish and put it somewhere warm, with a lid to help prevent the sand from drying out. Put new dishes in the cricket cage for new eggs. I can't remember how long it takes for the eggs to hatch. One good caresheet on rising crickets is located here:

Just click on crickets under Insect Care Sheets over on the left.
