Breeding Sandfish?

Rhacsandacks Jan 15, 2006 09:57 AM

Anyone have any experience breeding these? I am interested in purchasing a colony later this year. How hard are they to breed? Any tips? Thanks

I've heard and read that they are very hard to breed. It is very challengive and not for beginners.

I am looking for a challenge. I have breed a few gecko species and I am currently waiting to get some eggs from my varanus acanthurus. I am confused about one thing, do they lay eggs or are they live bearing? I have heard both. Also, do they need a burmation or cooling period? Thanks

I don't know about those eggs but they need _always_ a cooling period, if they are mating or not.

How long and what temps for the burmation? When do they sexually mature? Do you breed sandfish? How many in a clutch usually? I read 3-5.

Burmation has to be four to six weeks and in 10 celsius temperature. I don't breed 'em for my self, but I am very interested in these. But my next skink is going to be Lamprolepis smaragdina and I'm going to breed it. Yeah I think 3 to 5 is the usually.

I have also been considering getting a small colony of Lamprolepis smaragdina if I pass on sandfish. I cant find that many emeralds available though.

hey

i work at a pet store and we have had some sandfish for a while. I was cleaning the cage today and i found a baby so i guess they r live bearers. I dont think u need a cooling period to breed them either cuz i dont think it gets cold in the winter in the desert. Sexing is a good questions cuz idk either. im guessing u can tell by the size of the tail base. i dont remeber exactly if its the wider tail base is the female or the male. well i hope that hels some.
