Weird behavior continues... and a weird fish?

IvanTheTerrible Jan 15, 2006 04:56 PM

So my turtles are still doing all the stuff they were doing before. I've learned they are definately mating rituals, but I can't tell for the life of me if they are female or male. Judging by the claws, the big one has HUGE CLAWS while the smaller one has tiny claws. Significant difference - if thats a tell-tale sign, then i have a female and a male. I can't tell by the vents because of their size difference.

Here are some closeup pics.

There are also a bunch of feeder fish (which they havent really eaten). With them came this unusual fish though, that is really crazy. He's always alone near the top of the water on the far corners. If any guppy goes near him, he attacks it. He ravages the turtle pellets as if they were his worse enemy - he shakes it in his mouth like a shark, but it's barely bigger than a guppy. I dropped a spider into the tank near him and he ate it in one bite.

Check out the pics.

Thanks for your help,
-I

What kind of fish is this that snuck in with the guppies?

The fish you have is a panchex, not sure if that's the right spelling. They look similar to guppies, but you can tell them apart by the position of their mouth and fins. They can be quite aggressive, and the ones i've seen got to be about 3 inches, but they may get larger than that i don't know. You have 2 female turtles. Depending on how big you big ones is as there is no comparitive shot to something of a recognizable size like your hand or a ruler. The back claws are long but the front ones are not significantly large
Here are some pics of turtles' claws to show you just how large they are. Sorry for the photo quality.

This is my male D'Aquiem

And this is my female Pendeloque

And this is a show of how big they are with D'Aquiem first and Pendeloque second

I forgot to add that female turtles tend to be quite thick in the carapace. There is a significant difference between my male and female.
So here are some shots

D'Aquiem me male is first and Pendeloque my female is second
