Another breeding!

CherylBald Jan 15, 2006 06:06 PM

This is soooo exciting! I'll probably have a heart attack when/if I get eggs! My Pastel is so very clever. I have one more big girl to go but I think I missed the "window" of opportunity. She looked like possibly she had her ovulation before this guy got interested. I'll still leave her int he rotation but I have a feeling she's an early starter.

if a male is STILL breeding with her. Breeding stops in the moments approaching ovulation (fertilization and movement of eggs into the oviduct).

this is the second female he's bred this year and I have a third (the biggest one, of course) that he hasn't bred yet. The unbred female had a noticable swelling in the bottom third of her body for about a day and I think it may have been ovulation. That was about 2 weeks ago. Since this is the first year I've bred balls I'm not 100 percent sure of what I saw so I'll keep putting her in with the male anyway just in case.

He may have bred the third one already and I just missed it. I've been rotating the girls in with him since the beginning of November. I almost missed this breeding. I thought they were just snuggled up on the warm spot and I went move him to take her out and he was "hiding" thier tails.

Will they ovulate if not bred?

Will they ovulate if not bred?

Possible, but HIGHLY unlikely.

And ovulation isn't swelling. Its UNMISTAKEABLE and it will look like the snake swallowed a football. Swelling begins before and is usually a precursor to ovulation and egg-laying.

Being inexperienced at breeding balls, I'm kinda feeling my way along. And knowing every snake isn't going to follow the textbook (or DVD) doesn't help much!LOL

I have found lots of good info on this forum in the last year.

Its TOTALLY worth getting! I think you can even order it off this site now!

Best of luck. You are off to a GREAT start and will no doubt be as successful as you want to be.

I agree, totally worth it to get. Lots of good info and tips tho I don't think I'll be getting an ultrasound machine anytime soon!I did like seeing the ultrasound pics of the follicules, makes it easier to picture whats going on in my mind.
